Zubby Michael interview with TSWeekend
What was your experience like growing up in the North?
Zubby Michael: Northerners are wonderful people! Honestly, they are very lovable, especially those with open hearts. I had my primary and secondary education in Adamawa. Thereafter, I proceeded to Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka. I remembered vividly, during my childhood days, on a fateful day I drove my father’s car without his permission. Unfortunately, I didn’t know my father had arrived home when I got back so I ended up smashing into another car in the compound in fear immediately I saw my father. My dad gave me the beating of my life that day after which I passed out and was revived with water. However, my parents are wonderful people. My lovely father is a business man while my mother is a teacher.
How did your acting career begin?
Zubby Michael: It started at a club in Asaba where I met a producer who introduced me to the industry. That was what let to my playing a scene in Missing Rib. It was a remarkable experience working with stars like Ramsey Noah and Tonto Dike among others. Thereafter, Chidi Chijioke encouraged me into the world of acting. Ever since I have played countless roles as well as produced a flick entitled 1st Hit staring Ngozi Ezeonu, Chikwetalu Agu, Nonso Diobi, Ebere Okaro, Junior Pope, Harry B Anyanwu and Terry G among others.

Which movie brought you to limelight?
Zubby Michael: The flick that changed my story is entitled Three Widows. It is a story that kicks against bad traditional and cultural practices which should be abolished. I acted alongside Justice Esiri of blessed memory as a prince, Oge Okoye and Ngozi Ezeonu among others.
You have played the role of a priest; stubborn Prince and a gangster, what kind of person are you beyond the big screen?
Zubby Michael: I will describe myself as a special actor. My selling point is acting with ‘shakara.’ In fact, I always put myself into the character I play. However, I am a very simple person; I don’t pretend but live a truthful life.
Are you saying you don’t live fake life?
Zubby Michael: Fake life is boring! I call it living in bondage. Do you think I am stubborn? Tuface taught me how to be humble and respect people regardless of your status in life. So, my middle name is humility (laughter).
How are you enjoying your status as a celebrity?
Zubby Michael: It is a wonderful experience to be appreciated by people with love. I love my fans so much for believing in me. I want to appreciate God for his grace upon my life.
You are handsome, how do you handle your female fans?
Zubby Michael: Sometimes they call at odd hours. Despite my anger I try to be polite so that I will not to be misinterpreted. And when you tell them you are busy working on set they are like ‘because you are a celebrity you don’t want to talk to me?’ They don’t want to know what you are doing. In fact, many girls crush on me especially on social media but they are my fans so I treat them with respect.
Could you tell us about the woman in your life?
Zubby Michael: Honestly, I am not in a serious relationship presently. Since, I am a very busy person always travelling in and outside the country often to shot movies, I scarcely have time for a relationship because a relationship may cause my lover heartbreak since there is no time to express affection. Besides, every woman needs attention and needs to be loved so for now I am not in a relationship.
Could you describe your ideal woman?
Zubby Michael: There is no need to lie, I don’t know what my ideal woman should be like but I will marry a woman that makes me happy, loyal, prayerful, intelligent and beautiful.
