Rahama Sadau Interview
Interviewer: Can you briefly tell us about yourself?
Rahama Sadau: Oh well my name is Rahama Sadau. I was born in Kaduna, raised in Kaduna, schooled in Kaduna and i base in Kaduna. I attended Labayi international school for my nursery and primary school, I then proceeded to Kaduna Capital School for my junior secondary, and transferred to Misbaul Islam for my senior secondary school. After which I got enrolled into Kaduna Polytechnic for my tertiary education. Am a part-time model and a full-time actress in the Hausa film industry also known as “Kannywood”
Interviewer: Have you always wanted to be an actress? Or did you somehow find yourself in the film industry?
Rahama Sadau: Acting is actually a profession I’ve consistently aspired since childhood. But just as I decided to give it a try, I never got to meet the right producers. But it never stopped me nor discouraged me to continue trying and remain original. So about 3 years ago I was actually able to meet a certain producer that saw the talent in me and believed in me. But ever since, it has been a smooth ride so far. Thanks to God almighty,
Interviewer: What societal challenges do you face being a Female actress from the north?
Rahama Sadau: Oh my God! so many challenges, I don’t even know how to emphasize the magnitude of these challenges. Especially because of societal sentiments like; “She’s a muslim, she’s young, she should just get married and settle down” and so on. But I always thank God for giving parents that support me 100% and I have their blessings. So at the end of the day, nothing else matters.
Interviewer: You happen to be involved in some projects in Nollywood. What do you think are the major differences between Nollywood and Kannywood in term of production?
Rahama : Well actually Kannywood has improved a lot over time, so in terms of production the difference isn’t that much. Because we use the same cameras, and the production crew also. Because we outsource most from the same nollywood. The only difference between them is the associations, marketers and regulatory bodies that makes Nollywood more organized, it hardly exists in Kannwood. But Rome wasn’t built in a day, so we are getting there as well.
Interviewer: What exactly motivates you to stay active and consistent in your acting career?
Rahama Sadau: The challenges I encountered along the journey. My loyal and loving fans, my family. These are simply my sources of inspiration, keeping me up and doing and never give up.
Interviewer: Has social media helped your carrer in anyway? If yes how?
Rahama Sadau: Yes, social media in an essential tool in my career, and has helped a lot. Every actor need strong social media presence. This is beacause its a medium that exposes us in the Hausa to film industry beyond our local viewers. With the help of social media, my work is being recognized and exposed to views from all around the world.

Rahama Sadau: I can speak Indian fluently, and also a little bit of Arabic.
Interviewer: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Rahama Sadau: In the next 5 years i see myself as an international actress. And probably a wife and a mother.
Interviewer: What advice would you give other young aspiring female actresses from the North that are also facing challenges in breaking into the Hausa film industry (KANNYWOOD)?
Rahama Sadau: Keep your heads up, be determined, be yourself, be real. The path into the movie industry especially in the north can never be easy for you females. But it’s doable. If ordinary Rahama can do it, then you too can. Never give up.
