Shoki Sebotsane Biography

Shoki Sebotsane (Reshoketswe Portia Sebotsane) was born on 10th August 1977. She is a South African actress, casting director and fashion designer. She is best known as MaKunutu on SABC 1 soapie drama Skeem Saam.

Shoki Sebotsane Education Background

She matriculated from Prudens Secondary in Soweto in 1994.

She graduated from the Tampere University of Technology (Finland) in 2000.

She graduated from Tshwane University of Technology in the year 2002 where she graduated with a degree in Drama at TUT, Fashion Designer, specialising in corseted garments.

Shoki Sebotsane Career

In 2008 she was a cast member of mini series Death of a Queen as Grace Lerothodi which aired in the SABC 2 as part of the channel’s “Shakespeare in Mzansi”

In 2012 she had a starring role in an episode of the e.tv drama series eKasi: Our Stories. She also played the role of Tumi in the SABC2 soapie Muvhango

Other television series she has acted in include Kgatelopele, Moshwela Tharing, Old Grand Hotel, The Burning Issue, Generations, Body Kids, Muvhango, Skeem Saam and Soul City.

She also worked as a translator, language advisor, dubbing producer and casting director on the children’s television series Takalani Sesame. In addition, she was a casting director for the e.tv soapie Rhythm City.

Shoki has also done extensive work in theatre, appearing in productions such as Ancient Stars at the Giant Theatre, Space Odyssey at the Grahamstown Festival, The Pen at The Market Theatre and Gogo’s Groove at the Aardklop Festival.

Shoki Sebotsane and Husband – Shoki Sebotsane Wedding

Shoki Sebotsane was married to Sello Sebotsane with whom they are blessed with two beautiful children. They were married for ten years but Shoki Sebotsane later revealed that the marriage was not as glitterly as it seemed since it was an abusive relationship.

In an exclusive interview with DRUM she said that “I fought so hard to be idolised (by the public) I had to give us a false life just because I wanted the world to see us in a certain way”.

She revealed that to some point that they used to sleep in separate bedrooms and she took to sleeping with a knife under her pillow in case she needed to defend herself in the middle of the night.

“He would drag me out of a work event because he thought some guy was eyeing me,” Shoki says.

She says that she stayed in the marriage because she thought he loved her.

South African actress, Reshoketswe ‘Shoki’ Sebotsane, most famous for her role Celia Kunutu the mother and stepmother of Rachel Kunutu and Nimrod Kunutu in the soap, Skeem Saam has opened up about her abusive marriage to husband Sello Sebotsane.

In an a recent Interview with Drum magazine the actress said her 10 year marriage was not what it looked like. Everything was far from perfect.

Shoki revealed that the marriage was full of tension from their first day as husband and wife. Things got so bad that the couple even slept in separate rooms.

“I fought so hard to be idolised (by the public) I had to give us a false life just because I wanted the world to see us in a certain way,” she told Drum.

Shoki also reveals that it got to a point where she even slept with a knife under her pillow so she can be able to defend herself when she is attacked in the middle of the night.
